Hawzah News Agency- Qusay Abbas al-Shabaki, a member of the Transparency Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, made the remarks while emphasizing the need to resolve sovereign, economic, and service-related issues in the country.
He called on the Foreign Ministry and relevant security institutions to pursue the withdrawal of Turkish forces and the handover of all sites and barracks — foremost among them the Zlikan base in northern Iraq — to Iraqi forces affiliated with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and border forces.
Economic Policies and Exchange Rate
On economic matters, al-Shabaki explained that monetary and fiscal policies are the responsibility of the government and the Central Bank, noting that the government's resort to raising the dollar exchange rate stems from a severe budget deficit.
He added that parliament would not strongly oppose a parallel exchange rate if the government provides real guarantees to maintain currency stability within a reasonable range — not exceeding 160,000 dinars — to prevent harm to citizens with limited incomes.
Mosul Airport Stalled
On service and development issues, al-Shabaki expressed regret over the continued delay in the Mosul airport file and its failure to open to date, despite repair and reconstruction operations having been completed long ago.
He noted that the prime minister has issued directives to expedite the airport's launch and tasked the local government and governor with reaching an agreement with specialized international companies to manage the facility — a file now in its final stages.
